Hellz creative director and founder, Lanie, describes So Lolita as exuding a modern day coquette… she’s unpredictable playing it up with the high fashion “Hellz Naw” jacket to the raw “Gun It” dress while maintaining an idealism of Black is NOW but Colour is ALWAYS, bringing forth a vamped up innocence. As always Hellz have pushed the boundaries and have confronted conformity with every offering, becoming a favourite with our female customers over the years.

We introduce Le Coq Sportif to Laced with the Eclat (pictured below), a classic, super light, running style from 1985 which became a favourite in the French underground graff scene in the 80s. Everyone, this is Brendan AKA “Shop Boy”. Yesterday in the shop we were listening to the Above The Rim soundtrack and he was like what’s Above The Rim? And I was like ARE YOU F**KING KIDDING ME?!?!?! So today I brought in a few “Hood movie” lessons and Brendan’s got some homework. To his defense, he is only 18, but still he’s never seen Boyz N The Hood and Menace II Society which at first I thought was a f**king tragedy cause i’ve seen all these movies at least 20 times and they played such a big part when we were growing up. The early to mid 90s was the golden era of Hip Hop music, fashion, and rappers turned actors, and it’ll never be like that again.

But I get it, it’s not ignorance, there’s a generation gap, and he probably won’t feel the same as we did when we saw these movies for the first time in the cinemas, or on video…but it’s never too late to catch up… if you want to? Believe me, i’m not hatin’ on the kid, and I know he’s not the only one his age that hasn’t seen most, or any of these. For reference, there’s stacks more classic hood flicks to add to the list; Trespass, Colours, New Jersey Drive, South Central, Strapped, Do The Right Thing, House Party 1, 2, 3, Dead Presidents, Deep Cover, Fear of a Black Hat, New Jack City, Friday, 187, How To Be A Player, Booty Call, Belly…etc which are all worth a watch.

There’s reason to be excited Wu fans…Ghostface Killah aka Tony Starks aka Ironman aka Pretty Toney is touring Australia next month (with Theodore Unit) and will be in Brisbane June 28. Tickets are 51 bux from OZTIX and it’s meant to be at the Step Inn but word on the street is the venue’s changed to The Hi-Fi at Westend (but check ticket outlets for more info). Shit Yeah!!!

As far as sneaker release hype goes, this newb has had the internets buzzing for months along with the Yeezy madness. For those who don’t kno, this is the Terry Kennedy Signature shoe for Supra, the TK Society. Right now TK is trapsing all over the U.S. on a promo release tour for the black/red and purple suede versions, but this grey patent leather version shouldn’t be out until July! It’s like it’s a competition for who can come with the highest high top, and as you can see, the TK towers. Despite the height, the TK is still surprisingly streamlined and apparently very skateable. They’ve kept it simple, which we like, and the twin velcro straps hide the most poppable tongue on a sneaker yet! As far as we know, we’re the first to have this shoe on the shelf, so if you’re keen…don’t sleep! You can see more detailed pics in our online store HERE.

Here’s a little sneak peak of LRG’s Holiday 2009 range…but you’ll have to wait ’till the end of this year before you see these on the shelf. What a tease! Our next range of LRG is about to drop so keep your eye on the SHOP…it never lasts long…

It’s so refreshing to still be hearing good music coming from artists we used to listen to in the 90s. Longevity is a rarity in Hip Hop these days but some of ém have still got it…the classics never die. Let’s hope the albums are thorough…
